Zakarrias - "Zakarrias" 1971
Hey all. This is a record from a similar time and place as the Rustic Hinge i shared yesterday. In original form its insanely rare. So rare in fact people are perhaps a little hard on the musical content because its hard to square a $2000,00 plus album with its contents.
That being said, its a pretty darn good prog/psych record from 70’s Britian .
Here is a little background
Recorded in London in the summer of 1971 by Austrian singer / songwriter Bobby Haumer. It features appearances from journeyman keyboardist Peter Robinson (Ablution, Brand X, Quatermass, Sun Treader) and future-Henry Cow saxophonist Geoff Leigh.
Members: Robert Haumer [Zakarrias] (vocals), Huw Lloyd-Langton (guitar), John Lingwood (drums), Geoff Leigh (saxophone, flute), Martin Harrison (drums), Peter Robinson (keyboards),
Zakarrias was issued on the highly collectable Deram label. However, Deram withdrew the album almost immediately when they discovered that Haumer didn't have a work permit.
Mysteriously sounding heavy progressive with sensitive folk-psych moments. Great dynamics with contrasting guitar leads. The results have been compared to outtakes from the third Led Zeppelin album, but while the lead vocals are certainly reminiscent at times of Robert Plant, the overall sound and general air of quiet pretension is probably closer to Van der Graaf Generator leader Peter Hammill's early solo work.
Reissues on both vinyl and CD are out there btw but this is an oddball. get it here
