Hey all
I wanted to let you know that I have a new release out today "Improvisations For Echo Guitar"
Its my first release where it is solely improvisational. No edits, no overdubs, just me and as few a mistakes as possible
After making my album "Aeonium" last year, i realized i was pretty good at copying other peoples styles but i wanted to take the tradition of echo guitar and try and put my own unique spin on it.
It wasn't easy because the great pioneers (Achim Reichel, Manuel Gottsching, Fripp) had such strong, recognizable styles.
After thinking about it (and a lot of practice) i figured out a way I could run two delay lines in parallel to create something very complex, but that unfolds naturally.
The first side is me playing my Thai guitar using the Terry Riley 2 tape deck echo technique (the "Time Lag Accumulator") that was later used by Fripp & Eno for "No Pussyfooting". I added another layer of echo on top of that for even more repeats and stereo staging
The second side is my take on the Achim Reichel style using a regular guitar. He used a reel to reel deck to create echoes that were longer than what most of the conventional echo units were capable of at that time. In my version, I calculated the amount of delay the reel to reel unit could give me in either 3¾ & 1 7/8 inches per second and then matched and multiplied it digitally with my Strymon Timeline delay. This way I could concentrate on the shorter echoes the reel to reel gave me while letting the longer more complex echoes unfold at their own pace
Anyhow, that's some nerd stuff
That being said, I think its a very enjoyable listen regardless of how its made and I hope you think so too
Its pay what you want (if anything) so please snag it and tell your friends if you enjoy it. Word of mouth goes a long way
Thanks - PJ
