A Primary Industry - "Ultramarine"
Happy New Years
Starting the year out with an album that’s close to my heart. I think i learned about them from the Third Mind Label compilation
"Life At The Top" from 1984. I recall i picked “Ultramarine” up from my very first visit to the UK in 1987 and i have been happily playing it ever since.
I have seen on Reddit that some are calling it a early Shoegaze album. While i wouldn’t go that far, it does have elements that are similar to the Cocteau Twins and other likeminded bands. Some pretty impressive funky moves make it a bit different than some of the other bands of the era. I think of it as a fusion of the ethereal 4AD sound mixed with the Sheffield funk sound of Hula or Chakk.
You may know this band from their next incarnation as the ambient techno band “Ultramarine”. I don’t think i knew that when the debut album “Every Man & Woman Is A Star” came out but once i connected the dots i was a bit surprised because the 2 albums are pretty different from each other
I hope you enjoy it. and you can find it here
